With Hearts Aglow

An Appalachia Childhood

With Hearts Aglow

It’s said that people never change,

No matter the time or place or season.

But I put forth this observation,

One I’ve made note of in different locations.

Fall with its blazing colors of red and gold,

Bring forth the inner glory that rests in each soul.

Each vibrant red tells of the mercy and grace,

Each glistening gold, reflection of some yonder place.

It’s within the shadows of the colors we gather,

Bringing change to all and that’s what matters.

We leave behind the sorrows of yesteryear,

And cling to memories of loved ones we hold dear.

With humbled hearts all aglow,

We gather together the remaining souls.

With the colors of the season splashed upon our canvas,

True stories are told of our lives, nothing fictitious

It’s in these moments that some hearts do change,

From that of being different, but now all the same.

It’s a matter of realizing that time takes us all,

No matter the season, winter, spring, summer, or fall.

With the truth made known we’ve gathered together,

Whether aunts or uncles or sisters or brothers.

Around tables filled with the true colors of the season,

Giving thanks for each other and life, that is the reason.
