Windows of Blackpool
A holiday hot spot by the sea

Windows of Blackpool
One eye held the sea at sunrise,
salt caught in old postcards and air,
the other kept the lamps awake,
watching the town refuse despair.
The tower stood in iron patience,
not reaching to be something grand,
just rising from familiar streets
with weather written through its frame.
Children pointed, parents smiled,
coins pressed warm in waiting hands,
summer never stayed forever,
still people returned when they can.
There are places built from silence,
Blackpool never learned that art,
it made its own bright declaration
and fixed it deep in every heart.
Morning gulls and evening music,
stories folded into stone,
the tower never asked for greatness,
only gave the town its own.
Long after rides have closed and faded,
one shape remains against the sky,
a landmark holding years together,
teaching memory not to die.
Blackpool Tower opened on 14 May 1894 and was inspired by the Eiffel Tower, becoming one of the town’s enduring symbols.
