Wind

a golden shovel

The wind is acting up, searching for a cause

after centuries breezing through leaves unnoticed. It’s

tired of being treated like background noise, never

prayed for the way the rain is, so now it’s going

in circles, passing through wheatfields, trying to

say: I can flatten a town and will not stop

until every roof is ripped from its home, ’til

every frightened face turns upward and finally sees. You

cannot ignore a thing this furious and still call yourself wise

while it drags everything you buried up.

Formatting looks weird on my phone (I copied and pasted from my google doc) but this is a golden shovel using the line “cause it’s never going to stop ‘til you wise up” from Aimee Mann’s song Wise Up.

The daily prompt was to write about the wind.
