Why were you late?

A valid excuse

Why were you late?

On my way to math. Calculations

Addition, subtraction. Equations

Racing, to class pacing, I felt

An audible tension,

captured attention, I melt.

Suspension of atoms, my feet

are stuck, sucked to the ground

and frozen with heat. My legs

and spine, recognize and align

I turn. Desire burns, black

and white, division? No,

juxtaposition the image

in plain chair, and guitar

stark the chords played, I hum

the strum, humbled I remain.

Lingering strings pressed

fingers lose feeling.

Dressed in the sky, yellow

sunflowers and denim

hues, white brimmed hat

with ribbon and wings

barefoot the muse. She sings

sun spreads the dawn brings

light, creating longing. I wait

A bell rings, her song ends

She's gone, and I'm late.
