Why, Sixteen?

A Poem

By A. C.Published 9 years ago • 1 min read
Drake has nothing to do with my poem I just felt his face expressed sadness. I do not own this photo of Drake or any copyrights to this photo.

ONE, nothing is the same

Because I’ll never be the same

TWO many things have happened in my life

THREE fights in the past FOUR weeks

FIVE blunts a day to stop the pain

I have SIX more bruises

on my body

from my boyfriends’ angry yesterday

SEVEN more seconds of peace

please…

it will help keep me from reaching EIGHT

levels of depression

while stopping the stream of tears

that come with it

NINE hours of sleep is

what I need to

have a dream

but TEN times out of ELEVEN it will

just stay a dream to me

TWELVE people living with me

and my man

Those same roommates rape me everytime

they get a chance

THIRTEEN bloody needles on the floor

I sit and watch my mother beg

for more

the FOURTH-TEEN was when my

father was supposed

to come and save me but

it’s been FIF-TEEN months

since I heard from him

which means that he won’t be coming back

for my SIXTEENTH birthday

Because he’s busy trying to

survive a hell hole far

greater than mine

Daddy, I love you I truly

do but I wish the

judge didn’t give you a

life sentence

Because now I have to endure one too

sad poetry
