Why Do Fish Not Have Legs

Fish drift silently through the sea

Without a single step to take

Still part of me asks endlessly

Was this some ancient mistake

Did creatures once attempt to stand

Before the oceans pulled them back

Did evolution change its plan

And force another living track

Legs would seem so strange below

Among the currents cold and wide

Perhaps the water would not allow

Anything heavy there to survive

Fish never question what they are

They simply move through waves all day

While humans endlessly search afar

For meaning hidden in decay

Sometimes I envy creatures blind

To overthinking every breath

Without the burden of the mind

Or fear surrounding life and death

A fish does not compare its face

Or wonder if it matters still

It simply lives within its place

Following instinct without will

Meanwhile humans build despair

From questions leading nowhere fast

Destroying peace through constant care

While trapped inside the future and past

So maybe fish without their legs

Exist exactly as designed

While humans sit with heavy heads

Confused by their own restless minds

And perhaps the strangest creatures here

Are not the ones beneath the sea

Though humans claim intelligence clear

We still barely understand what it means to be free
