Why Didn’t You Come With Me?

The innocent victim

My intent was

to make a place

Away from her

disappointed face

Because there

is only space

When she alone is safe

in that place

You remained

in our family home

Increasingly feeling

more alone

You refused to join

our rebel upstart

With innocence

and a good heart

Never allowed

to gain control

never getting

a leading role

In your life

so you pretend,

placate,

and always bend

Take on things

beyond your years

’til your left

in cuts and tears

In my depths

I feel your pains

I hold the scars

of your opened veins

Join me please

let me in

and let me heal the pain

You keep within
