October is many things, but the most prevalent to my heart is this: Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Whether it's parent's abusing children, or partners, the scars, trauma, and pain echo all the same. I, was a victim once upon a time as a child, as an adult, I've been very blessed in my relationships. However, it has made me extremely guarded and not fully trust anyone in my life, occasionally including my husband.
Join me in spreading awareness!

Why can't you see?
That this isn't the way love should be?
Surely your love for them can't be that blinding?
That 'sweetheart' they dubbed you was an emotional binding,
Eternally tethering you to their side!
You don't wish to run or hide,
Because they blanketed you in praises and false promises.
Why can't you see?
💜💜💜
Why can't you see?
That they took your identity?
You were a game to them; something to play with over and over.
Then once finished, they left you out in the cold without a cover!
When you realized the truth, it was too late.
They didn't want marriage, craved children, and desperately wanted to date.
All of it bore flags so red that they burned.
Why can't you see?

Why can't you see?
They lied to your face blalantly!
"You don't need a license to drive, we'll use the bus!"
"I already love you, we don't need to get married, it's such a fuss!"
"You're so incredible, I'd love to have some kids with you!"
"Why do you need to graduate? We have so many cool things to do!"
All of it was hollow flattery, without any pure intentions.
Why can't you see?

Why can't you see?
They don't want you to develope yourself fully.
Blocking your contacts is abuse,
Manipulating your appearance is too.
There's no excuse
For exploiting your heart, and clouding your views!
While it seems hopeless, there's always a way out.
Why can't you see?

If anyone you know is being abused, suspected of being abused, or are a victim yourself, there is help available. Local shelters and organizations are a good way to start. However, if more in-depth help is needed, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
And remember, love shouldn't hurt.
