Why Are We Here?

Why are we born and why are we here,
When life is full of laughter and tears,
What is the reason we hang around,
Before we return to heaven or ground.

Explain the meaning of life to me,
Because I can’t grasp it in my head you see,
We arrive in this world with nothing at all,
Then spend our lives trying not to fall.

Why are we here what are we waiting for,
And why must we leave by the same old door,
Do we get one chance one life one love,
Or do we return from somewhere above.

What makes the universe what makes a man,
Who decided where all of this began,
What makes a heart know somebody is right,
What makes us dream when we sleep every night.

Why do we love if love has to end,
Why does an enemy once call you friend,
Why do we laugh when we’re hurting inside,
Then tell everybody we’re doing just fine.

Why do we spend years searching for more,
When sometimes happiness knocks at our door,
A touch of a hand a kiss on the cheek,
Can sometimes be everything we ever did seek.

Maybe the answers are not ours to know,
Maybe we’re simply just meant to grow,
To love while we’re here and give what we can,
And leave something good in the heart of a man.

Maybe we’re here for the people we meet,
The stranger we smile at while crossing the street,
The hand that we hold when somebody has fear,
Maybe that’s simply why we are here.

So I won’t pretend that I understand,
Why life gives us things then takes from our hand,
I’ll ask all my questions until my last year,
And still probably wonder why are we here.
