Why are we afraid to get old

A poem from my heart

Why are we afraid to get old

Why are we afraid of wrinkles

If we are all going to the same place

If they show signs of wisdom

Or scars of simply being alive

Isn’t it funny

How all our lives

We are being advertised

That getting old is a curse

When it’s simply the way life works

What is youth anyways?

It’s inexperience

It’s feeling lost

It’s trial and error

And it’s lack of maturity

I mean our faces were full of collagen

But our hearts were confused

The stretch marks, the darks spots, the knees that crack, the childbirth scars

Aren’t they all proof that we are alive?

That we have made it through all these years

Let’s celebrate getting older

Let’s celebrate being able to give advice to the younger ones

Let’s celebrate the wisdom we have acquired throughout the years

If there is one thing we should be worried about getting older

Is keeping our heart pure

Free of resentment, bitterness and jealousy

It says a lot when you meet an older person

And his or her eyes still twinkle

The hope, love and kindness are still alive in them

No matter what life puts them through
