Who Writes Short Shorts?
A Mash Up of Shorter Poems For Weirdos
Oh No, I'm A Poet
Dammit,
I wanted a life goal, and sadly,
I guess I know it.
But dear God, why oh why,
Did you think to make me a poet?
Don’t you know there’s a recession going on?
Don’t you know how much school costs?
It’s too bad, I’ve got some talent,
But can only afford to stay lost.

Wanting More
Every word I've ever written for you,
I've found it on the floor.
Still, somehow, your smile makes me feel bad,
For somehow wanting more.

Tentative Existence
The existence of my pet rat depends on a paperclip.
It holds the cage door closed like a lock.
If I don’t put it on, my pet will surely escape,
Not necessarily to death,
But gone to me.
Faceless amongst the other rats,
Maybe living in the shed or the garbage,
Or the garage, or the yard.
A wild reflection of the timid rodent once caged.
No longer domestic, no longer familiar.
I might just consider buying another rat.
She doesn’t even realize the importance of the paperclip,
Or maybe she does.
She paws at it curiously
Sometimes.
