WHO PICKS THE ROADS WE TAKE?

Who picks the roads we take when the morning starts to rise,
Do we choose the paths before us, or are they written in disguise?
Some roads are bright and shining, with the sunlight dressed in gold,
While others hide beneath the shadows, where the bitter winds blow cold.

Life will take us down many roads, some gentle, some unkind,
Some will leave their scars upon the body, others carve them in the mind.
You may find a road of roses, with a rainbow overhead,
Then stumble through the darkness, where the living feel half-dead.

And I will show you darkest days, where no direction seems to stay,
When every road becomes a maze and every sign has slipped away.
You turn left and then you question if the right road passed you by,
While the darkness whispers softly, telling you to never try.

But it all comes down to choices, good and bad, the cards we play,
The little steps we choose to take that shape another day.
Some decisions come like angels, some arrive with wicked eyes,
And some will wear a pretty face while carrying a thousand lies.

We make mistakes and call them lessons, then we make them once again,
We swear we have escaped the storm, then dance beneath the rain.
We chase the roads that glitter, thinking gold will make us whole,
While the darkest paths we travel may be searching for our soul.

And when luck has turned against us, when the heavens seem unkind,
When every door is bolted shut and every answer’s hard to find,
Do we sit beneath the darkness and surrender to the grey,
Or search for just one rainbow after all the rain of yesterday?

For somewhere past the broken roads, where the cruelest shadows hide,
There may be a little pathway with a light upon its side.
It may not shine like diamonds, it may not be paved in gold,
But sometimes the road we never wanted is the one that makes us bold.

So who picks all the roads we take, and who decides where they will bend?
Perhaps the answer lives within us, waiting for the bitter end.
For life may build the maze around us, but our choices hold the key,
And every road we dare to travel writes the person we will be.
