who are you?

quests and questions

By Curtis MboumbaPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

an angel

but there were no feathers floating in the sky

what would they have wings for?

they came from the ground

appearing and disappearing like the seasons

appearing and disappearing like depression

angel, guardian, savior

they came with the gift of a sister

but she looked like a mother

but who were they?

an angel, a father, a brother?

a shadow from the past

a mystery one cannot see past

a force that cannot be moved by neither will or words

a siren

but more of racket than a song

the blinding lights assaulting your pupils from all sides

then the cold

you remember the chills traveling through your body as you left home with too few layers

you remember the voice of your mother

the right you thought wrong

she, too, was a siren

her voice as distant as the memory of her

an assault from all sides of your mind

but this cold feels unfamiliar

where is she?

you tried your best

you’ve summoned the change

you sang, you screamed, you cried

you tried

you ate nothing but pages

you wore nothing but black

broke the mirrors so you could finally see your reflection

you were immortal

you were asexual

you kissed many men and spoke otherworldly tongues

you fought the cold without a garment

you painted god uglier than they know

you found faith

you drowned in the river styx

you were born again

you’ve been called many names

wore many faces

a whore that not many faced

but still remained this question

an anchor

captivity into reality

who are you?
