White’s Advantage
Discrimination: A Poetic Pondering
Battleground primed, positioned and ordered:
A systemic symmetry.
Black and white divided, poised and apposing,
Checkered in measured fairness.
Prejudism and partiality propels white forward.
Black never passed the baton of first privilege.
Game inherently tipped in favour of
The power of white’s position.
A cultural capital of advantage
On a silver guilded platter,
Cards now stacked against.
Black doesn’t break, it fortifies and defends.
Possibility of triumph if perseverance trumps:
Odds are not in favour.
The rules unjust: the game declines.
A new structure arises.
Black and white stand together.
Start together.
Move in concert,
Move in unison,
Move together.
No fight for control,
No aim to over power,
No check.
Both win.
Thank you for taking the time to read my poem. I understand that so many have faced such incredible injustice and for that I am truly sorry. I wish to listen. To take time somehow to hear the voices of those so long silenced. To hear your experiences. I pray we learn and we change and continue to question our own prejudices that we never make someone feel less than they are.
