Whispering Wind

Don’t Turn Around

It lurks and it hovers

In the dark, out of sight

You hide neath the covers

Completely consumed by your fright

You can’t turn around

Immense fear leaves you frozen

The deafening sounds

As you know you’ve been chosen

The creak of the door

And slight tap on the window

Footsteps on the floor

Has you hugging your pillow

The tingle on your skin

And that breath on your neck

Was that a whispering wind

Or something else at your back

The sudden urge to explore

To see what’s waiting around

But the ultimate horror

Keeps your eyes on the ground

Allowing the unknown

To fully capture your mind

Your body releases a grown

While the heart in you sighs

No matter how intense the need

You simply cannot turn your head

While the ache in you bleeds

You stay still, in your bed

Whatever is waiting

Calling you to surrender

Do not take the bait

Knowing is not always the answer
