When we say, "Believe in yourself, love yourself, be yourself"—

Please ask yourself this question first: which "self" are you referring to?

In reality, there are two kinds of "self."

One is the self born of illusion.

This "I" often says: "I believe in myself, I love myself, I am myself."

But such statements mostly stem from societal indoctrination.

The "self" we perceive is actually a jigsaw puzzle composed of countless external viewpoints and frameworks: expectations from our family of origin, societal standards, schooling, peer evaluations, public opinion, and even quotes from self-help books and inspirational platitudes.

These fragments piece together what you believe to be "me," but it is merely a copy molded by societal discipline—a preset personality template. You become just one copy among many.

The self in illusion is the sum of others' opinions.

Behind this kind of "self" often lie limiting beliefs, a lack of flexibility, and an absence of genuine inner guidance.

In this state, one easily becomes anxious, compares oneself to others, and fears rejection. Desperately trying to become someone who "looks good enough," they stray further away, their true soul's direction growing increasingly blurred.

The other is the self after the soul awakens.

This "self" may be quiet, may be different, imperfect, and in no hurry to be understood.

This is a life lived through sincere choices.

It is not about pleasing others, compromising, or proving one's worth. Rather, it is the true self that slowly emerges each time one returns from confusion, rises again from setbacks, and sees direction clearly amidst chaos.

The self of the soul is the sum total of every autonomous choice accumulated.

This kind of "self" doesn't need to compare itself to anyone, nor does it depend on external standards. It possesses a clear direction, profound beliefs, and unwavering freedom.

Therefore, when you say— "Believe in yourself," please first ask: Which self are you believing in?

When you "love yourself," discern: Is this love a call from your soul, or merely inner compensation?

When you "be yourself," be honest: Is the way you live a result of awakening, or simply habit?

Your true self doesn't need to please the world, nor does it need to desperately prove its worth.

Your true self simply needs to live honestly—at its own rhythm, in its own breath, through its own choices—and step by step, return to the original state of the soul.

The self in illusion is the sum of others' opinions; The self of spiritual awakening is the sum of every autonomous choice.

When you begin to distinguish between these two, you embark on the true journey home for your soul.

It is not a perfect path, but it is a clear and free path—a path that belongs only to you.
