Where There is Darkness

In the beginning, there was darkness

Where there is darkness,

man does not wish to linger.

We find ourselves surrounded

by noise and light, and grapple

with the notion that one day,

we will become the very dust

our feet tread upon. That one day,

there will be nothing left of us.

We are burdened by that fear

that we are not good enough, that

we will never be good enough.

An ever-expanding darkness that

shakes us to the core of our being

and threatens to overwhelm us.

Why are we so afraid?

What are we afraid of?

In the beginning, there was darkness.

It encompassed the earth, the sky,

and deepest depths of the sea

and held all in its grasp.

Then, there was light

A beautiful and painful light.

God's new creation.

There was day and night,

and the sun burned

brighter than ever.

The stars held us, enamoured

by their dance far above us.

And the moon in its silver glory

brought tranquility in darkness

and guided us through the night.

There is no need to fear the dark

when we ourselves were born in it

and moulded by the light that comes at dawn.
