Where Sorrow Learns to Laugh

I wore the moon like ashes on my skin,
while rivers grew like roots behind my eyes;
then laughter cracked the darkness from within,
and silver birds erupted from the skies.

My sorrow grew blue wings upon the wall,
then swallowed stars and coughed them into rain;
the clocks began to laugh, the shadows crawled,
and flowers bloomed inside the broken pain.

I laughed until my heartbeat turned to fire,
and tears became bright planets in the air;
my grief climbed up the branches of desire
and vanished like a ghost that wasn't there.

Now every scar becomes a door of stars,
I laugh, and watch the night forget my scars.
