Where's Home Now?
In memory of Paul Smith
Now that you're gone, this home is but a shell
Your heart gave out and took out mine as well.
I sit alone and think of days gone by
When we took on the world - you and I.
*
Back then, we were so youthful, so carefree.
Our home was anywhere we chose to be.
Our daughters came along and gave us joy,
Though on occasion, they fancied to annoy.
*
And through it all, you let your kindness shine.
When things were tough, our home became our shrine.
The girls grew up and started on their own.
And as we blinked, our new grandson had grown.
*
And now, I think of you most every day
With yet another grandchild on the way.
That home is just a house now that you're gone.
Until I'm home with you, I'll soldier on.
