Gone is the laughter of childhood,
The carefree play of life.
Adulthood stole it all away,
And left nothing but debt and strife.
*
Where is the joy of yesterday -
The happiness once known?
All the giddy energy
And youthful glee has flown.
*
Surely, it can be searched for.
It must have gone somewhere.
For joy to exit permanently
Would simply not be fair.
*
Look - there's joy in love's first kiss
And in a baby's smile.
You can find it anywhere,
Even if it's been awhile.
*
There’s also joy in nature -
Ocean, water, soil and trees.
Animals can have it too,
So finding it is a breeze.
*
Never lose the search for joy,
For laughter, bliss, and heart.
Yes, you can find it just because
It's been there from the start.
