When You Share Surplus
You receive self-respect and honor from others

This summer,
mother had abundant mangoes,
from the backyard trees.
After sharing with relatives,
and the invading monkeys,
she had still surplus.
She could have sold them
and earned some money,
but she did not.
She distributed them to people,
knowing they have no fruit trees
of their own.
She has been doing this for years,
sharing without greed,
giving without expectation.
Despite living with little,
she always finds something to give.
For this good karma,
she may receive other blessings,
or not,
but she has something precious.
Self-respect,
and the respect of others.
