When You're Not Around

A poem by Rowan

In a new city, you become a new person

In a vast wintry place, it all seams unreal

I float on clouds

Each step is divinely timed

I lose myself in everything

I always wish I hadn’t

~

Sometimes I stand on cliff sides

I dream of what could have been

I dream of you

I wish I could unspool time

And wrap you back in my embrace

Suffocate you

Love you

Punish you

It’s all the same

~

Who are we now?

Strangers

Distant cousins

Long lost lovers

I dreamed of you

Do you still dream of me?

~

I let myself fall

I become obsessive, enraptured

I envision you for all your greatest traits

I forget how horrid you can be

You’re not special

Every day I grow and change

And learn the kind of person I am

When you’re not around

heartbreak
