When The Sign Says, "Kick Me"

They Usually Will

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 2 years ago • Updated 2 years ago • 1 min read

feeling defeated, dishonored and broken

a little less me than I've been before

simply surreal and selfishly unspoken

shimmering like a puddle on my bathroom floor

shattered and smashed, a fragmented splinter

ruptured and torn like some discarded ragdoll

naked and bare, I uncontrollably shiver

a smudge inconspicuously left on a wall

injured and maimed with irreparable damage

left to seep through the cracks, in pieces, after the fall

a momentary glance at such stammering carnage

completely devoid of any wherewithal

shaking but standing, overpowered and humble

I gather the remnants of me from the floor

"what does it matter, " I casually mumble

I'll take what is left and help myself to the door
