When Spring Has Sprung

And Fall Has Come

Once rosy pink, now on the brink, I gradually found,

That no one shade conveys the way a tender leaf turns brown.

"I'm evergreen!" I told myself – my colors wouldn’t run,

But all the while I lived my life beneath the crimson sun.

And though my edges slowly frayed my shades gained depth and scope,

So when my beige began to show it wasn’t hard to cope.

A dark spot here, some greying hair, did not mean I was done.

My changing hues displayed – full view – a life well fought and won.

To think of all the colors that go into making brown,

When different shades combine and make the wheel of life go ‘round.

My memories are a tapestry, from all that I’ve been through.

That’s why although I’ve seen it all I have no favorite hue.

So even though my fall has come I think I have it made,

Since I am more than just one shade,

When all is said and done.
