When Lightning Strikes

A Beautiful Destruction

By Nicole WesterhousePublished about a year ago 1 min read

the fire hit bone

igniting within

as if my very soul was ablaze

a spectacle

and then ash

i was told it only happens once

an instant spark

and a quick death

they didn't mention

the pain

the convulsion

the twisted agony of a single moment

i wasn't told how it ends

yet alone that it could happen

again and again

lightning striking

igniting

destroying

i'm a corpse already

what more could be left in the flames?

heartbreak

Nicole Westerhouse

I'm thirty.

Damn, that hurts to type, but there it is.

Not much of note.

I suppose I should say "yet."

Makes it sound like I'm going places.
