Of Darkness and Enduring Hearts

Gone were the days

Of solace found behind four walls

Owned by moonless nights and somber skies

Days when dawn offered reprieve

Became blighted, ominous nights

Yearlong shadows covered the world

Eroding minds and hopeful hearts

Shrouded in fog and ghastly shapes

Prowling streets and shuttered homes

Outsiders roamed, unfettered and foul

Only the brave of undying spark,

Knights of the weak and broken souls

Tethered the world to its former shell

On days when fear swallowed us whole

Bloodshed flowed in dreadful floods

Eroding resolve in enduring hearts

Roping us in bleak and unending fright
