When Autumn Fades...

Winter Consumes What Is Left!

By J.W. BairdPublished 11 months ago 1 min read

The last little bit of hope leaves me as I see the last bright red leaf's color die out

What once was beautiful now brings in mute monotony dull shades of Brown and Grey

The only light to pull us out of darkness is the gleam from the sun's rays that some days bounce off the snow

It can get so bright we have to shade our eyes from the daylight

The smell of morning dew and the faint odor of wood burning from a late night bonfire lingers in the air but not for long

In the blink of an eye it's replaced with a crisp fresh feeling and a cold breeze that turns my fingers and toes ice cold

My eyes begin to water as they sting as the wind whips my face when it blows

The crackle of leaves now replaced by the crunch of the snow beneath my shoes

The beautiful glistening snow turns from white to dingy mucky tones

What I once longed for a breath of fresh air outside in my peaceful backyard now gone

The seasons have changed my will has too as I feel trapped inside my house with the Goodbye Autumn Blues

Who Am I?

I keep asking myself. I spent half of my life as a single mother. Pushing myself to be the strong independent individual that I have always been. My kids have grown and my life seems turned upside down.

I now search to find myself!
