What Sets Your Heart on Fire?

A Short Essay

A heart can be set ablaze by many things: love, hatred, and sorrow only being a few to name. Though my own isn't quite fond of the second listed, there are times where I find that love, sorrow and hate can almost be the same. Countless nights I've spent pouring out kerosene in the form of words, attempting to lessen the pain, because paper seems to be the only thing that'll listen; then again, how could it protest? When a soul is aflame, is anyone safe from the havoc it could wreak?

A heart on fire can be catastrophic to say the least; it can be the lit match in a room full of fumes, tearing down the walls around it as quick as it's built them. Scorching the palms of those who seek comfort and searing the tongues of those who offer it. The devastation of another's words, burning you up from the inside is detrimental; a mere sentence could send you to the highest cloud in heaven, or it could plunge you to the deepest pit of hell so keep your heart guarded.

Hold it away from the flames of another's jealousy, and keep it safe from the tyranny of the world's demands. Do not let another take what is yours, and stand steadfast by what your heart tells you. For people may lie and cheat, but your heart beats only for you, do right by it.
