How valuable are you?

Ever since every human's come out of the day of their birth

External beings have always assigned us our worth

Some of us are born with value, while others have it made

Some of us are stored with value, while others loose their grade

People always assign value to one another without their permission

People assign a value to you, trying to fit you in their system

When it comes to the value you got how's it counted?

The value you gained or lost how's it amounted?

Everybody's got a

Value for their systems

Value Recognition

Value with Conditions

Value for permission

Value for Accepting

If not, then they're Rejecting!

Education! Education!

Can change your destination

Jobs and Companies have an inclination

To incorporate

Employ those with an innovation

To station

Their hired population

For providing goods and services

Since that's where the worth is

You have to gain some experience

Or else they'll think that you're delirious

And not even serious

When it comes to providing their company with value, or even some form of quality

Even on your days off you have to be on call for these

Certain types of positions

There's something for someone, somewhere, but we still need permission

Value for Accepting

One day I had to stop to go and take stock

Of the company I'm working for, so I looked up their stock

I don't want to remain in the same job for the rest of my life, dead-end

So I looked at their growth rate, P/E Ratio, and most importantly yielding dividend

I had to see how much I had to pay them for them to pay me back

Reverse Engineered the numbers, that's right I did the math

I checked the value of my income I checked what they're paying

To them, inherit value I have is low, that's what I'm saying.

I'm not looking at numbers compounded over the years

The number I'm looking at is if I started this year

The Fear

Of not being valuable can leave one in tears

"How can I prevent mine, and prevent my stagnation?

How fast can I become valued in a state of inflation?"

Finances, money, aren't the only relations with Value,

A relationship Values

Two or more people enter, they join

For more than, or Only, their loins

A collection of coins

A status of wealth

A status of health

Below and Behind

Our pants held up by Belts

Emotions are felt

Pheromones, made, are smelt

Physiological

Psychological

Everything all amounts

To looks, status, composure

And you can't forget about body count

It's the image presented VS the image that's used

Built Up, Knocked Down, Improved or Devalued

Sometimes it's all misconceptions

Sometimes it's all just abused

Project the Object onto people, making them tools

Trying to make or change the way people are makes You the Fool!

A lot say that they have such high standards

Wave 'Em Around like a banner

You can preach that your body's a temple

Yet you treat it more poorly than a manor

There's your answer

Your fundamental sexological cancer

Instead of looking for signs; like an Aries or a Cancer

You gotta look for the flags

Both the red and the green

But remember they're not the same nor treated equally

Just approach with caution cause a red flag could be disguised as yellow

You could get stuck at the crossroads of indecision

Struck by collision

And kill a fellow

When it comes to romances

It's more than just chances

People always entitled, that's what their demands is

When it takes two to tango, we see what the dance is

Yes, the world thats external can determine your value

The world that's external has determined set values

To get what you want you have to value follow through

What do you value? (Determine your value)

That's up to you.

This poem is amazing! I like the way you point out in the beginning that from the day of our birth we let others decide what we are worth. Or it just seems to happen that way. Without asking for it, we start out being told how valuable (or not) we are. At some point in our lives, we have to put the brakes on and declare that no individual, company, or corporation can tell us what we are worth. You reminded us that as we say our body is a temple, we treat it worse than a manor. Beautiful analogy! I am guilty of doing that in some ways, and have resolved to try to do better.

This is a masterful piece of writing. It feels like a very well-refined and elaborate RATM song. The systems we are born into surely were not meant to be- it feels like we are born to feed the greed of the elites. I am new to Vocal and excited to meet new writers and read new poetry-keep up the great work!

Sometimes it's so hard to push for your own value. To see your worth and make others see it too. Or move on if they don't. This was a great reminder to value yourself but also to be mindful of how we show value to others. Great work :)

  • Whoaaa! This was so powerful!!!! I loved it so much!
