What Lies Beneath the Earth

Beneath our feet the silence sleeps,
In caverns no one dares to tread.
Where darkness guards forgotten keeps,
And whispers wake the long since dead.

Perhaps old kingdoms rest below,
Their crumbling walls still standing proud.
Where ghostly rivers softly flow,
Beneath the world’s unbroken shroud.

What creatures hide where light has failed?
What ancient bones still guard the deep?
Have hidden mysteries prevailed,
While all above lie fast asleep?

Do crystals bloom like frozen fire,
In colours no eye’s ever seen?
Do hidden treasures still inspire,
With emerald light and golden gleam?

Perhaps the earth remembers all,
Each footstep placed upon her skin.
Each whispered prayer, each rise and fall,
Each battle fought, each secret sin.

Could buried dreams still linger there,
Like seeds awaiting springtime’s call?
Or silent echoes fill the air,
Where no sun’s gentle rays can fall?

The deepest truths are seldom found,
By those who only seek the sky.
For some still sleep beneath the ground,
Where unanswered questions never die.

So when I walk on fields of green,
I often pause and wonder why…
The greatest mysteries unseen,
May live beneath us all our lives. ❤️
