WHAT IF GOD WAS ONE OF US

Wrestling With Fate and faith

By James YoungPublished 2 years ago • Updated 2 years ago • 1 min read

In another life, another time,

not blurry in my mind

when asked, what is that sound.

I always hear it, when you are around.

Those are night birds, I replied

Harbingers from my troubled mind

fed by reminders of what was denied.

statues placed by Satan himself

But you can’t have a thing

till you give him of yourself.

I only have one sweet life.

I just want to live

and have a good wife,

to my heart, that I can give.

The statues in place

gave way to my grace.

There’s always more blood you can give,

but waning is my desire to live.

I could give up more of me,

but then I won’t be

the person my life was for, but,

the life I’m not allowed for me anymore

I can’t give more and feel truly free

Why was I born, why must I be

all my hopes have been torn

they lie there bleeding in the dirt

the day I breathed air

I saw God standing there

he said you will be my special one.

You’re now on this earth

I will show you such pain

and I will show you such hurt

but all of your strengths will remain.

Just remember your place, in

God’s holy grace

through me, you will not feel the pain

It was then that I knew

that the statues were me

standing strong in the cold driving rain
