What If?

We are on a path of self-destruction

What if we could learn to live in harmony

And not have that obsession about “only me”

What if man could be kind to others

And take note of the world we see

We drill for oil and other things

Without a single care

About the damage that we do

We will when it is not there?

What if we stop to think about the damage that we have done

To all the animals we rob of house and home

What if we had a magic wand to get rid of bad behaviour?

Would people stop being bad, or would they continue not to care

Like the politicians on their sacred hills

Concerned only about their status

We rape and pillage the land that was

To make way for the new

What if the evil rulers of countries near and far

Get their way and blow each other up

What if they have no regard and no matter what the cost

No good can come of such selfish acts, and when talking seems to fail

The innocent lives, the lands destroyed

We no longer seem to care about that

Can we all stand up, say out loud and with an open heart

“We’re not going to stand for that?”

What if …..

[A/n: I don't write a lot of free verse poetry. Being OCD, I find I need the rhyme. This is a hybrid free verse with some consistency. That is, the first and every third stanza contain the words "What if?" 😊😊]

Till next time,
