What if I had never said hello?
Or kept on walking by.
What if I had never been too busy?
To ever stop and try.
What if I had said no instead of yes?
To that question that another asked.
What if I never gave a damn?
Or saw the pain that was masked.
What if I stopped instead of going?
Made an effort to stay in touch.
What if I never said goodbye?
And could feel your touch.
What if the world would stop spinning?
So that I could have one more chance.
What if it wasn't too late?
To let the past be the past.

She flings her arms around my neck and squeezes me like she’s never going to let me go. My head spins as her lips brush against my cheek. She must be able to feel my heart thumping in my chest. I shuffle backwards and ram my hands into my coat pockets, watching her reach down and heave the rucksack across her shoulders.
