What Does it Mean?

Rumination on meaning

What do we mean when we ask “What does this mean?’

Are we truly seeking a real answer?

We seek, we pray, we beseech the universe for a reply.

What does it mean when a little girl says she wants to be a dancer?

Does it mean that is her one true answer? Or may she next week decide to be an astronaut or explorer?

If a child says “I want to be just like daddy” is that the defining moment?

Or perhaps one wishes to emulate mom, a teacher, or the president.

What does it mean when we say “What does it mean?”

When a person dies too young, or ages to unusual years

Is there a meaning? Is there a reason?

Was it because 0ne was “bad” and the other “good”?

Or is it merely the vagaries of a random universe?

Bad people can live long lives. Good people may be cut down on their prime.

What does it mean?

Childbirth comes with horrific agony, pain unmatched.

Does that mean women are being punished on some way?

Is it due to some long past sin?

Or when a God-fearing man doing his best dies in a horrible accident.

Is there some underlying purpose? A deeper reason?

What does it mean?

If we had turned left instead of right at some fork in our past path

Would our final destination have been a truly different place?

We can look back over our days, weeks, months, years.

Ruminate. On choices made. Or not.

Still, we have the power of making, but, with the past, unmaking is beyond us.

We create our future with every breath we breathe, every step we take, every decision we make.

Yet, others also help to create our future. Other’s decisions most definitely affect us.

Had Truman had not dropped two bombs would I be writing in Japanese or German?

We can only try to follow our heart to it’s own destination.

Try with each day to make the choices with which we can live tomorrow

When yesterday is immutable as yesteryear.

What does it mean?

I don’t know. But, each day I shall rise and seek to make choices of which I can be proud.

Choices which will hopefully make this world a better place for those with whom I share it.

What does it mean to you?

The answer is up to you.

Seek it in your own inimitable way.

42. It means the meaning is up to you.
