What Did I Eat?

Giraffe On A Unicycle

Dreaming again.

About a giraffe

On a unicycle.

Long legs.

Knobby knees.

Pedalling down

The street

Painted pink.

Awkward legs

Pumping furiously.

Gaining momentum,

As its neck

Bobbed up and down,

Ducking to avoid

Electrical wires

Made from

Shoestring licorice.

Zigzagging

Along,

Dodging potholes.

Swirling

Vortexes

To other worlds.

Its speeding

Downhill

As elephants

Dressed in

Police uniforms,

Riding tricycles,

In hot pursuit.

Trunks trumpeting

Like sirens.

Flying monkeys

Join in the

Chase

For air support...

Swooping and laughing,

I watch from the

Lavender sidewalk,

As the menagerie

Heads straight for me,

I turn to run...

But only in

Slow motion

As if I'm surrounded

By lime jello.

Suddenly,

Daylight!

What did I eat

Before bed last night?!

About the Creator

Elizabeth Arnold

I’m a storyteller. I write for the love of writing. I feel a wave of excitement whenever I buy a new notebook and a pack of bic crystal pens because I know those blank pages hold wonderous possibilities. It’s about time I share them.
