What defines?

That which was, that which is, and that which could be,

Throughout days, weeks, months, and years,

Courage in the day, or the night full of terror and fears,

Seasons come, seasons pass,

The recognition of what was, the acknowledgment of what will be,

The confession of what is inevitable, the vision others have yet to see,

Powerful in your position, a lack of any control,

Hope delayed despite your burdens, a longing that fills you whole,

The consideration of the activity in the heavens,

To what takes place as mere breaths upon this earth,

Silver, gold, many jewels, what defines a man's worth,

I ask of you, in the darkest days, as gold to then refine,

What do you use to measure a character's worth, in a story that will then define?
