He stands stock-still, bedecked in monochrome;

A winsome smile that’s fringed with grey-flecked fuzz.

Deft fingers flick clear crystal ‘cross the wood

And streams of liquid shimmer into steel.

A dash of dark maroon, a pinch of pink;

A single spoon-swish stirs the heady blend,

Then clattering cubes plunge into the lagoon

And rattle as their silvery prison chills.

He cracks the frosty canister in two

And nimbly slips a strainer o’er the split.

You stare in lip-smacked silence, watching as

Translucent amber swirls through metal mesh,

Cascades across the rugged glacial knurls

And scintillates within its limpid home.

Your cocktail is served.
