What Am I Fighting For?

Just for vocal to see that there are other writers that matter

What Am I Fighting For?

I fight my fight nearly every day,
But Vocal never throws attention my way,
They pass me by, they miss my writes,
While I’m still writing through the nights.

You might overlook my byline,
But you cannot silence my rhyme,
I’ll keep on writing what I feel,
Because every word I write is real.

I want a fair shake,
But I don’t even get a milkshake,
Every week I’m writing poetry,
Wondering what more it takes.

My poetry feels tossed down the drain,
I’m on bypass permanently again,
And sometimes it feels the same few names,
Keep appearing in all the frames.

I’ll award myself Top Story each week,
Yes Vocal, I certainly have the cheek,
I know that my work is good,
Even if you don’t see it as you should.

I’m not asking you to hand me a crown,
Or pick me just to calm me down,
I only want my words to stand,
And have the chance I think they can.

There’s writers waiting in the wings,
With poems, stories, beautiful things,
Maybe look beyond what you always see,
There’s more than one good writer — including me.

I’ll carry on, I’ll write some more,
Even when you pass my door,
Because a writer doesn’t disappear,
Just because nobody claps this year.

So Vocal, this is all I’ll say,
Before I put my pen away,
You’ve heard my words, you know my stance:

Maybe it’s time you give someone else a chance.
