We ask why when it's the end of the road

Answers, they aren't easily found

We look back, come time to pay the debt

At things that made most men's hearts loudly pound

What a fragile mess is man

From the first temptations

Sullied are the souls

Dirtied by earthly influences of delight

Selfish thoughts they do abound

What a mess is the species called man

Times come when a challenge rises

The truest tests are sometimes from the darkness

No guiding lines for man to use for the deal

And nothing easily chosen to cross off the barricade

The mess that is

Fail many will when faced with such tests

What seems to be needed often is different after done

A burden carried only by the few

Just to be there still a sign they won

What a mess they are

Carry the devil's bargains on into the next

And keep things within one's brokenness

Risked it all in the midst of the night

To do the things that needed done

A mess that man never knows if they're right
