Whale Dreams

Ontogenisis

Whale in it’s watershed dreaming

of an answer to extinction

forty million years feeling

its own weight floating

Whale slaves to waters surface

a warm blooded mammal breathing

an easy death target floating

Whale gathers blue crab traps caught in

fishing nets plastic floats, plastic bags

human garbage ornaments unpleasant

knickknacks unsought after yet

unable to free itself - irritated

Whale dreams

of thin waterless air

itself a delicate

creature flying

Scattering sea life

in tail flukes wake

whale plummets

a silent world - moaning

of fear - of protest

of a time before ships

and sailors drowning

To sustain the species

its land ancestry beckons

a huge leviathan force

lurches towards waters edge

Whale beaches itself

dreaming of evolution
