An Ekphrastic Sonnet

It must be difficult for you to live

You do not understand the moon at all!

You do more evil than you can forgive

You claim great strength, but tremble at my call

Shape shifting has taught me to pity you

I have breathed with lupine and human lungs

You cannot comprehend the point of view

Of those who taste and sing with different tongues

Granted, you dream about being yourselves

Wearing the forms of beings you are not

Tales of this sort of thing fill stately shelves

But metamorphosis takes more than thought

How blind you are to stark reality!

You know of only one, small way to be

Ekphrastic
