There’s a door made of wood

But its rotten and damp

When you push it to enter

Its texture is like sponge

.

The wind that greets you

Is cold and smells

Like washing left to dry

In dank air too long

.

Welcome to October

A town of mildew and leaks

Of rain that is endless

Of evenings that stretch to misery

.

Nights here are dreadful

Spent clenched in a ball

Of triggered fear

Fretful dreams plaguing sleep

.

Its one saving grace

Are the spirits and ghouls

Who lurk on the edge of town

Offering reprieve

From the gloom and anxiety

That October provokes
