We Toasted to Eternity
A Poem About Friends Worthy of a Toast. Wherever they are, memories never die.
I saw the ring mark on the table,
I raised a glass to you,
and thought that toast eternally noted
ingrained into that old wooden table,
No doubt standing in that same pub still
with the dodgy leg that rocked
when you brought in the round
my balance challenged mate
I can still hear your laughter
I can still know that in that moment
We were there feeling dizzy and alive
the loos were rocking
but still we had fresh points to make
We toasted to eternity
For we were young
with dreams still swimming in our eyes
That night rang on like a siren
I can hear it still
But not you
I've no idea where you are these days
But I bet that ring mark is still there
In that old, forgotten pub
Perhaps you're pensive just like me
Raise a glass to me would you?
So I might raise mine too
And we can sit with our separate sunset
And make a toast to eternity
