We, the Colossus

A Modern Revamp of Liberty's Sonnet

Not like billionaires of political fame,

With judicial erasure and science be damned;

Here, at our ethic-cleaved country, we stand,

A mighty march with poster boards, who proclaim

In megaphone thunder, spelling our name-

The Children of Exiles. From our phone-lights'

Glow world-wide viewing, our weary eyes bright

For this nation is worthwhile battleground.

“Keep America out of self-serving mouths!”

And we cry:

“Give me your brown, your queer,

Your immigrant masses yearning to breathe free,

The hopeful dissenter of your bristling youths.

Send these, the homeless,

The veteran,

The trans,

The poor,

Send these, the focused,

The neighborly,

The Muslim,

The Pastors,

Send these, the oldest,

The disabled,

The addicted,

The ignored.

I lift my lantern by the broken door.”

And we march, we call, we cry out-

Of our diversity, we are proud.

The shouts, the joy, the intersectional hope so loud-

This is the democracy for which we were vowed.
