We're Still Here

thematic resemblance clones

By BrenPublished 4 years ago • 1 min read

it's sad when you

measure your life

by all the good songs

you ever heard

and all the bad ones

you wished you'd never

it’s sad when you count

all the funerals

you've attended

you’ve had to go to

as they become

more frequent

and your attendance

is required each time

your witness

to an ending

to a beginning

it has to be done.

never measure worth

against weight

don't let your illusions

live rent free

in your visions

it’s sad when it’s

sad

when it's over

sad

nowhere near over

sad

or anywhere you

ever imagined

you would be

if you thought that

you meet the final fire

out of simple pure desire

that the years will fall?

that the fears will fall?

as you time out

your life.

time is an illusion

a distraction

still abstracting

still stimulating

still burning

still yearning

maybe i miscounted

or underestimated

or wasn't entirely

no in the duh!

i dunno?

but...

we’re still here

we’re standing and we’re kneeling

we’re still here

we’re decaying and we’re healing

and we’re still here

we’re praying and we’re reeling

and we’re still here

we’re donating and we’re stealing

and we’re still here

we’re still racking still giving

still born ghosts of the living

but we’re not dead yet

ghosted yeah

but not dead

toasted yeah

but not bread

wounded yeah but not bled

body blow

not head

not entirely

the little bits

weary

of our silly wars

accept their demise
