We Are All Only Human

So own it

We come into this world an innocent with our own lessons to learn,

We soon discover that life is more than a little tough,

From a very young age we learn that we will face many challenges,

And they battle our psyche when they get terribly rough.

**

We struggle and learn to hide behind a false facade,

Battling our demons in the silence of being alone,

Plastering a brave face every time we interact with the public,

Whether that’s face to face, via the written language or over the phone.

**

We never understand what others are battling,

Although we know that we struggle our fill,

Yet every single one of us is only human,

And we’ll all spend our time battling our will.

**

We make mistakes; it’s an inherent part of being human,

It’s how we learn our lessons, grow to be more,

A necessary process in which we expand our knowledge,

Becoming a different person than we were before.

**

But when a mistake is made, we need to face the outcome,

Learn, grow, apologise and amend,

There’s no need for arrogance, bullying, passive aggressive bullshit,

Or feeling the need to blatantly offend.

**

Be a better person and own your errors,

Soothe the pain you caused another to feel,

When called out, don’t walk away, ignoring the hurt,

Own up to your mistake and be humanly real.

**

It’s sad that some feel the need to blame others for their error,

And then lecture and bully others into submission,

We are all only human — these bullies included,

So own it, man up and show some contrition!

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

  • Omgggg, there are sooooo many people who blame others for their mistakes and make victims of them. We should always stand up to those people! Loved your poem!
