Oh, how quickly they turn,

fickle as fleas in a kennel,

curating cruelty, calling it

kindness, delighting in

sword swinging, a crusade

of the self-declared righteous,

determined extermination

of unpopular ideas.

Though you may compel me

to cry an ocean of tears

and relish the sound

of my pain, labeling me

according to the narrative created,

remember the strength of this swimmer

who doesn’t know how to drown.
