Warmed by the Sun

Villanelle contest

By Elliott RobertsonPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

Oh how I long to be warmed by the sun,

to know he is my brother, through and through.

May I sense the sun’s presence when day’s done.

May I enthuse at dawn, “The day’s begun!”

I take sunrise for granted, I spit on new.

Oh how I long to be warmed by the sun.

Evening falls hard. I’m lonely. Life’s not fun.

I need celestial brother, loyal, true.

May I sense the sun’s presence when day’s done.

The townsmen with hard hearts with swords me shun.

My life is like a bitter putrid stew.

Oh how I long to be warmed by the sun.

At night I roam through town, crying, undone.

Burning bridges over the years I rue.

May I sense the sun’s presence when day’s done.

My fortunes are all gone. I’m left with none.

I’m cold. I cannot sleep. Each day I’m blue.

Oh how I long to be warmed by the sun.

May I sense the sun’s presence when day’s done.
