War on Our Own Soil

My cousin Derrick when he was serving his country. Next to him are his parents, Donny and Val.

Psst, did you know that we're fighting a war?

Not just overseas but in the U.S too.

Against people who just don't care or have a clue.

About what it's like to take up arms and be a soldier.

About leaving families behind to be trained as killers.

You lose parts of yourself in war that no one else will.

But you have to stay strong.

Even when you struggling to accept killing is right when the pastor says it's 'wrong'. All while knowing that if I don't the threats to my family and country will remain strong.

It's two sides of a bitter coin.

Even so- I'm proud to be one of the brave and the few who can defend everything I hold dear.

Despite sometimes having to become the monster that my enemies most fear.
