War of men is nothing but sadness,

A battle cry never gains glory.

Sorrow that could bring a nations collapse,

Leading those to perpetual misery.

No joy from playing this game of chance,

A choice of weapons nothing more than a stance.

There is no stopping what can not be undone,

The despair is to great, already won.

Hopes of better days they flee,

Never knowing what lies ahead, what will they see?

Soldiers trudging through dark fields of mud,

Necks with wet shoulders weighted like lead.

So fight or flee what can you do,

Isolation brings life or maybe its a brew.

Tears fall and are seen with great relief,

For in war death can bring one's release.
